You know a lot of modern car design is about making a car look like it's moving fast even when it's stationary.

They should just do this. It doesn't look like it's moving fast, it looks like it's eminently capable of moving fast. If that makes sense :)

Beats me... Random picture I found in the interwebz, not mine at all, though the want is very. Very. Strong.

Nope, sorry, random picture I found off the Internet... Not that I wouldn't own one, if my budget and Brazilian laws allowed, but that might still take a while...

That's what caught my eye as well. Fat tyres, drag racing scoop and general appearance, and mud all over the fenders. There's a story behind all that that I wish I knew.

exactly sir, I need a muscle car in my life. Something to bash and have crazy fun in. They are everywhere and cheap, but I still can't afford one. Damn priorities and adulthood >:(

I'm surprised no one's yet noticed the tucked bumpers... It's from one of those kits I mentioned the other day, which lets you install flush bumpers on 73/74 Novas without converting the entire front.

Get you priorities straight then! I'm just kidding of course, but I may try a paid scholarship in the US next semester and if I get it... I'll buy a Nova before I find a place to stay. Seriously!

I noticed something was off there. I know very little about Murican cars in general, though.

It's visually more satisfying this way.

Definitely. If I had one, there's a chance it would be from that model year (as it's cheaper than the 68~72 models) and I'd definitely tuck the bumpers like that.

Planning on importing one?

Kinja'd!!! BlazinAce - Doctor of Internal Combustion > Hermann

Kinja'd!!!1

Yup, since at least 2009. I kinda know what to do, and how much it would cost and that's what's keeping me so far. If I had money to the point where costs and bureaucracy weren't a problem, I'd do it, but at that point, I might just move to the US, hahah

Might be cheaper to get all the documents to move out than to import and run one here legally...

Unless you know someone who knows how to import stuff, someone in the higher ranks of the federal police and the money (probably at least twice the value of the car) in hands you're very likely to get the car stuck in customs until its sold in an auction years later, all rusty and rotten (and very likely be featured in blogs as "classic car up for auction because smartass couldn't pay the taxes").

Yay for our country.

Twice the value would actually be nice... During my many, many attempts to find a reliable customs agent to file the paperwork and act on the transaction, I was quoted at 6 to 7 times the original value of the car. So, a 5 thousand dollars car, likely needing work, would cost between 30 and 35 thousand reais delivered and legallized.

OUCH. Seriously? This is INSANE!
A friend of mine's neighbour has a Convertible 67 Mustang, I asked him how he got it. He said he was in the US, found it, bought it and hired one of those Imports companies from Brazil, and they did the rest. He said he paid double of the car's value on the full service and had no headache.

Have you quoted with one of these companies?

Yup, that's the ones I consulted with, all of them from Porto Alegre or Passo Fundo though. According to a friend of my dad's, companies and classic car clubs in Rio Grande are all into this insane price gouging agreement, and that it's the people in Curitiba we should talk to.

One of these days I'll definitely get around to it, probably as soon as I become a resident in a hospital somewhere.

Kinja'd!!! Hermann > BlazinAce - Doctor of Internal Combustion

Kinja'd!!!1

Curitiba has a big market for classics, they probably have better prices. I've seen a few BMW E30 there, for example (all USA, though). São Paulo may also have some of these importers because I've seen lots of classics around here.

Yeah... better save money until your residence. Worst part of this all is that you NEED to have like 3 or 4 times the amount of money ready in case something goes sideways.

Kinja'd!!!1

Knowing my luck, things won't go as much sideways as upside-down, completely in reverse, probably down a hill, right into a river of molten lava crawling with sharks with lasers mounted on their heads.

That's how my fortunes work, haha...

Man, you should see the current state of my Tipo after the massive hail storm I crossed on my way back to my parents' home, this saturday. The whole front end was off until yesterday for bodywork, I had to go back to a neighboring town to see if anyone had found and kept the grille that had been ripped right off (plot twist: Someone totally did!), the cooling fan went haywire again and that's not even counting the CV joint, fuel pump and meter I was supposed to replace a motnh back but didn't have time.

The poor thing is looking positively like a wreck.

Kinja'd!!! Hermann > BlazinAce - Doctor of Internal Combustion

Kinja'd!!!1

Aw! Didn't know that! Good you found the grille at least.

Poor Tipo... At least the engine/cooling system didn't suffer. Could've been much worse. No broken windows is also a positive. How much did you spend on bodywork repair?

I actually had a friend do it for me, so I shamelessly asked as a favor... It wasn't that bad, most dents were pretty small, it's just that there were hundreds of them. I'm hoping it will be back on the road tomorrow night, then I'll wash it, check the injection system for new carbon deposits, and suspensions all over again again and then all that's left is hunting down the crickets and noises.
